Implementing DevSecOps for Accion MFB: Accelerating Mobile Banking Innovation

About the Company

Established in 2006, Accion MFB is a leading microfinance bank in Nigeria that empowers micro-entrepreneurs and low-income earners by providing accessible and inclusive financial services. The bank serves over one million customers and operates more than 70 branches and agent locations nationwide, playing a vital role in advancing financial inclusion through digital banking solutions.

Customer Challenge

Operating in a highly competitive and regulated digital banking environment, Accion MFB needed to deliver new features for its AccionMonie mobile application at speed to meet growing customer expectations. At the same time, as a regulated financial institution, the bank was required to maintain strict security and compliance standards.

Accion MFB's existing release process relied heavily on manual security reviews and compliance checks, which added three to four days to every deployment cycle. Security issues were often identified late in the development process, resulting in costly rework and delayed releases. This created a tension between the need for speed and the obligation to maintain strong security controls.

Partner's Solution

Digitspot partnered with Accion MFB to implement an automated DevSecOps framework that embedded security directly into the software delivery lifecycle. By adopting a secure software supply chain approach, security checks were integrated early into the CI/CD pipeline using AWS CodePipeline, ensuring vulnerabilities were detected before deployment rather than after.

Security scanning tools automatically analysed source code and container images on every change, preventing high-risk vulnerabilities from reaching production. Manual infrastructure configuration was replaced with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, ensuring consistency between staging and production environments while enabling rapid provisioning and reliable disaster recovery.

Continuous monitoring was implemented using AWS Config and AWS Security Hub, keeping the bank compliant with regulatory standards such as PCI-DSS and NDPR. Non-compliant resources triggered immediate alerts, ensuring the environment remained secure and audit-ready at all times. With Digitspot's DevSecOps framework, security is no longer a blocker but an enabler, allowing Accion MFB to deploy faster and more securely than ever before.

Results and Benefits

The modernised platform significantly improved delivery speed, security, and operational efficiency. Deployment lead time dropped from three weeks to less than 24 hours, enabling daily releases without compromising compliance. Automated security gates ensured that no critical vulnerabilities reached production, and compliance reports that once took weeks can now be generated on demand within hours. Accion MFB now benefits from faster innovation, stronger security assurance, and a more reliable mobile banking experience for its customers.
